Commonly in music, there are songs that talk about men and/or women cheating on their significant other. “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” takes a unique approach to situations like this and shows the perspective of the person that they were cheating with instead of who they cheated on.

Link to song lyrics: https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/carlypearce/neverwantedtobethatgirl.html

Masculine Stereotypes

“He helped me change a tire”

A strange verse in the song but a common stereotype that a man would know how to change a tire and even be willing to help someone else with it.

“He never had a ring on, So I never thought to ask”

Both a male and female stereotype is that if you are married you should wear a ring on your left hand. After listening to the song, you could probably picture or think of what the artist means by “that girl” even though she never actually said or described a person. This ability to think of that person who can get in the middle of relationships comes from actual experiences or stereotypes that have grown within society.

This song by Carly Pearce tells the story of a woman finding out she’s been seeing a man that turned out to be in a relationship with someone…

[172
70
