While analyzing with the Sex Role Perspective, I will utilize the items for evaluating masculinity and femininity as presented by Hyde (1995, p. 134), and these specific items will be <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">italicized<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. When the female character tells him to wait outside because she is busy, he happily complies. This shows the male character as being <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">yielding<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">understanding<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, stereotypically feminine traits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Throughout the music video, the main female character does most of the talking and is much more active than the main male character, who is quiet yet loving and loyal to the female character. This portrays the male character not as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">aggressive <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">assertive<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> but instead as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">shy, soft-spoken, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">tender, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">stereotypically feminine traits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Throughout the music video, the main male character is very obviously in love with the main female character, and he shows this by constantly being by her side, even sleeping in the stairwell outside of her room during the night. This shows him as less <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">individualistic<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and more <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">loyal<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">affectionate<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, stereotypically feminine traits. The way he portrays his love is more stereotypically feminine, being <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">gentle <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">tender.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In the lyrics of the song, the male singer sings about loving a woman and being willing to \u201cdie for this love.\u201d He goes on to sing, \u201cYou are necessary for me, like air for breathing,\u201d and \u201cwhether I have to laugh or cry, I look for you\u2026\u201d\u00a0 These lyrics, sung by a man to a woman, portray the man, and also the main male character in the music video, as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">affectionate, loyal, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">tender<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, all stereotypically female traits.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Evaluating Femininity<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Reinforcing stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Throughout the music video, the main female character often wears <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">warm<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> colors typically associated with femininity, like pinks and reds, while the male character wears more dull colored clothing.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Resisting stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In one scene, the main male and female characters are shown moving into a house, and the female character hands the male character items and tells him to put them away. In this instance, the female character is shown to be <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">assertive<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and have a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">leadership ability<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, stereotypically masculine traits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The main female character is shown planning and teaching English classes. Being active and successful in her career portrays her as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ambitious<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">independent,<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">self-sufficient<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and even <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">dominant, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">typically masculine traits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Throughout the music video, the main female character is very talkative, active, and expressive.
