I will be using The Sex-Role Perspective to examine what it means to be a woman according to women in a male-dominated genre. To best explore the Sex-Role Perspective, my analysis will consist of highlighting emotions that fall under stereotypically female and counter-stereotypical emotions pulled from Hyde (1995, p. 134).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>Stereotypical emotions conveyed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOh, I&#8217;m just a girl, my apologies\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(satirically) apologetic\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Contersterotypical emotions conveyed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c&#8217;Cause I&#8217;m just a girl, oh, little old me\/ Well, don&#8217;t let me out of your sight\/ Oh, I&#8217;m just a girl, all pretty and petite\/ So don&#8217;t let me have any rights\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Assertive\/Sarcastic<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOh, I\u2019ve had it up to here\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Forceful\/Strong Personality<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Conclusion<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The song as, a whole, highlights how small a woman feels in a male-dominated world. How women feel like they are in constant need of \u201cprotection\u201d and \u201ccare\u201d from big, strong men.
