While analyzing with the Sex Role Perspective, I will utilize the items for evaluating masculinity and femininity as presented by Hyde (1995, p. 134), and these specific items will be <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">italicized<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. In this post, I will be discussing the music video for \u201cLut Gaye\u201d by Jubin Nautiyal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Link to video: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=sCbbMZ-q4-I\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lut Gaye (Full Song) Emraan Hashmi, Yukti | Jubin N, Tanishk B, Manoj M | Bhushan K | Radhika-Vinay<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Translation of lyrics: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/hindilyricstranslation.blogspot.com\/2021\/02\/lut-gaye-translation-jubin-nautiyal.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/hindilyricstranslation.blogspot.com\/2021\/02\/lut-gaye-translation-jubin-nautiyal.html<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Evaluating Masculinity<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Reinforcing stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Several male characters are seen in a couple of violent gunfights throughout the video, reinforcing the stereotypical masculine traits of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">aggression<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">willingness to take risks<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In a few instances, a male character is seen standing above the female character while she is sitting down. This reinforces the masculine stereotype of being <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">dominant<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Resisting stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At one point, the main male character softly wipes a tear from the female character\u2019s face. In this instance, the male character is resisting masculine stereotypes like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">forcefulness<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and instead shows stereotypically feminine traits of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">gentlenes<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">s and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">eagerness to soothe hurt feelings<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When the female character is shot, the male character holds her in an emotional scene. This resists stereotypes of being <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">individualistic<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and instead shows<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> affection<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">compassion<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, both stereotypically feminine traits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The song, which is sung by a man, is a touching love song (see translation of lyrics linked above). In one instance, he sings \u201cSince the very moment, I became yours.\u201d Lyrics like these resist masculine stereotypes of being <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">individualistic<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">independent<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and instead show stereotypically feminine traits like being <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">affectionate<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">tender<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Evaluating Femininity<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Reinforcing stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The main female character is shown crying alone in a hotel room in one scene, reinforcing the feminine stereotypes of being <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">shy <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">tender.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When the main female character notices that the male character is bleeding from a gunshot wound, she cleans it with alcohol, which reinforces stereotypically feminine traits like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">sympathetic<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">sensitive to others\u2019 needs<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Resisting stereotypes<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At what appears to be her wedding, the main female character suddenly rips off her veil, throws it into a fire, and runs out to drive away with another man. In this instance, the female character resists stereotypes like <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">yielding<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">gentle<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and instead portrays the stereotypically masculine traits of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">aggressive<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">assertive<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">willing to take risks<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\">When the main male character is trying to open a drink, the female character grabs it, opens it, and drinks it. Then, when the male character tries to wipe her face for her, she initially resists. Here, the female character resists the stereotype of being <i><span>gentle<\/span><\/i><span> and instead is <\/span><i><span>forceful<\/span><\/i><span> and <\/span><i><span>assertive,<\/span><\/i><span> both stereotypically masculine characteristics.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am analyzing the most viewed Bollywood music videos on YouTube using the Sex Role Perspective.
